Academic advisement, college/career and personal counseling are offered at Bishop Walsh in a personal or group setting. The department works with students and teachers to schedule appointments. The department coordinates and develops all testing for the Middle School and the High School.

- Sunday administrations will occur the day after each Saturday test date for students who cannot test on Saturday for religious reasons.

Available Scholarships
The following are a list of scholarships that annually come into the Guidance Office. Please come see Mrs. Cioni if you are interested in any of these.
Mercedes Benz Scholarship-$2500 awarded. Student must have a GPA of 3.0 and be a first generation student entering college. Deadline is February 10.
Gerald Jefferson Scholarship-$500 awarded. Student must demonstrate participation in extracurricular activities, community and civic activities, and in marketing and business programs. Student must be pursuing marketing and business programs and must be employed in the retail industry. Applications can be found in the guidance office and the deadline is February 28.
Ronald McDonald Scholarship-$1000 awarded. Application can be found in the guidance office and the deadline is February 15.
Hispanic Heritage Scholarship-$1000-$3000 awarded. Application can be found online at www.hispanicheritage.org and the deadline is February 2.
Bernard C. Harris Scholarship-$1000 awarded. Student must have a GPA of 3.0 to apply. The application can be found online at www.harrisconnect.com/scholarship and the deadline is March 17.
College Prowler Scholarship-$1000 awarded for college application essay. More information is available at http://collegeprowler.com.
Best Buy Scholarship-Student must have good grades and have done some community service. More information can be found online at www.bestbuy.com and the deadline is February 15.
Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholarship-$10,000 awarded for one student in Allegany County. Student must have a 3.5 GPA and must have a minimum composite SAT of 1700. The application packet can be found online at

McDonald’s Scholarship-$1500 awarded. Student must demonstrate leadership skills both academically and within their communities. The application can be found in the guidance office and the deadline is March 1.
The Polish Heritage Association is offering four $1500 scholarships based on GPA, SAT's and an essay. Details are online at PHA-MD.org. Deadline is March 31
Mc Kaig Scholarship- Must be resident of Bedford or Somerset County, PA; Mineral or Hampshire County, WV; or Allegany or Garrett County, MD. Applications can be found in the guidance office and the deadline is May 31.
Hispanic Heritage Scholarship – Up to $8000. Apply online by March 14 at www.HispanicHeritage.org .
Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship – Volunteer work and leaderships skills. Deadline March 15. www.kohlskidswhocare.com.
New Page Scholarships for sons/daughters of employees of New Page. Deadline Feb. 29.
Rotary Club Scholarship - $800 Scholarship available to a BW senior. Application includes a transcript, recommendation, activities resume and financial need. Deadline April 18.
Gary Beckward Scholarship – Must be resident of Allegany County. Need a 3.0 GPA and transcript. Must be accepted to a college on a full time basis. Deadline April 30
KFC Colonel’s Scholarship- Must be planning to attend a public, in-state college. GPA of 2.75 and above and U.S. citizen. Apply online at www.kfcscholars.org between Dec. 1 and Feb. 10.
Soroptimist International- Girls between 14 and 17 who have done community service and shown leadership in service organization. $200 plus $100 for club/organization. Deadline is December 1. Applications are in the guidance office.
Powell – Wise Charitable Trust Scholarship – Seniors must be accepted to a college and have financial need. Student must also write an essay about career goals, accomplishments and interests. Teacher recommendations, transcripts and SAT scores must also be included. Deadline is March 15. Forms are in the guidance office.
My Sister’s Keep Scholarship – $1,000 awarded -Must be a graduating senior during the 2009-2010 school year, with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and in good academic and administrative standing at his or her current institute of education. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic excellence, financial need and community service.
Cynthia E. Morgan Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 awarded – Must be a Maryland high school student who is a first-generation college student. Also must be planning on attending a Maryland college (or medical school) with a major in a medical-related field. Deadline is February 25.

The Father Amos Gaudette Memorial College Scholarship – Two grants of 1,500 each year for up to four years are available to members of the Knights of Columbus. Grants are made on the basis of academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need, with primary emphasis placed on academic excellence. Application deadline is March 1, 2010.
The Monsignor William F. Sauer College Scholarship – Two grants of 1,500 each year for up to four years will be awarded. All Catholic students who are residents of the State of Maryland are eligible. Grants are made on the basis of academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need, with emphasis on financial need. Application deadline is March 1, 2010.
Dr. Gerry McGreevy Scholarship to Mt. St. Mary’s University –Scholarship requires a completed application, transcript, two letters of recommendation and financial need verification. Deadline to apply is March 15.
Supreme Council Scholarships: (ProDeo and Pro Patria) Based on Academic Excellence. Must be son or daughter of Kof C member and attend a Catholic College. Deadline March 1. Mail your request for application to:

BURGER KING® Scholars Program criteria
Applicant must be a high school senior who:
- Maintains a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
- Works part-time for a minimum of 10 hours per week or 40 weeks per year
- Be actively involved in community service activities
- Demonstrates financial need (1040 form required)
- Plans to enroll in an accredited two/or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of the application year.
Applications are available online Sept. 14, 2009 – Feb. 1, 2010. Applications and all accompanying materials must be postmarked no later than Feb. 1, 2010. Fireside Catholic Publishing – A $1000 scholarship for an essay entitled: “How religious education is influencing my life”. Deadline Dec. 18. Only one applicant per school on first come first serve basis. Applications in the guidance office.
AXA Achievement Scholarship – Possibly large amount of money for a student who has been active in the community, led a project that benefits others or overcome personal challenges. Application available online at www.axa-achievement.com . Deadline is December 15.

National Honor Society Eligibility
- Junior or Senior BW Student for at least one semester
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
